Holger Dau received his PhD in 1989 and subsequently worked as a postdoctoral fellow with Kenneth Sauer at the UC Berkeley (Chemistry Department, Lawrence Berkeley National Lab, (1990-92) and with Horst Senger in Marburg. He habilitated at the Department of Biology, Philipps Universität, Marburg (1994). Since 2000, he has been a full professor at the Department of Physics, Freie Universität Berlin, where he studies biological and artificial metal sites using X-ray spectroscopy and other advanced spectroscopic methods. He is interested in mechanistic studies of water oxidation, H2 formation and CO2 reduction, both in biological and artificial systems.
